Gaia Alice Intaglietta, known as GAIAMACCHINA, is an artist with a recognisable, original and consistent style.
Her artist name combines her real first name Gaia, rich in meanings of Latin and especially Greek origin, with Macchina, understood as machinery or machination: it draws from her early high-school works, which depicted "celibate" machines (in reference to Duchamp) or "useless" machines (in reference to Munari), playful or propitiatory. Gaiamacchina has expressed herself through many artistic forms: painting, performance, video installation, photography. When she paints, she uses metallic colours and, more recently, precious metals such as gold. The figure is drawn directly in freehand pen, without compass, eraser or ruler. Her early works are on paper and tissue paper, ephemeral and short-lived materials; her adult works are on canvas and more durable materials. She was nicknamed "la Duchampiana" by Maestro Omar Galliani at the Academy.
