"Le Forme dell'Essere" - Solo Exhibition by Maurizio D'Andrea in Paris
The collective unconscious as a painterly language
Over a century ago, Carl Gustav Jung proposed a radical idea: what if our unconscious mind were populated by forces of various symbolic natures? What if this shared unconscious had a profound influence on the lives of individuals? Jung identified in what he called the "collective unconscious" a repertoire of narrative archetypes: the "Great Mother", the "eternal child", the "wise old man", the trickster, the guardian angel. Fundamental patterns and images shared by all of humanity. Invisible in their pure form, these symbols act as irresistible drives, comprehensible only indirectly through history, art, myth, religion and dreams.
Twenty paintings between the unconscious and matter
With the exhibition "Le Forme dell'Essere", Maurizio D'Andrea presents twenty paintings that are the result of a profound process of research and the surfacing of these universal images. The artist starts from the immediate unconscious, employing a painterly technique akin to the psychic automatism developed in the 1920s. Each work is realised in mixed media: details, geometries, lines, signs and vortices of energy merge into fields of strong, movement-filled colour. Outlines become blurred and fierce; the colours, often layered, become carriers of a movement that captivates the viewer and transports them into the depths of their own mind.
